Cups, plates, bowls and chopsticks have many hidden dangers in overdue service

The cup has to be replaced if it becomes turbid and opaque. In order to be healthy, you should choose the right glass for drinking water. Glass is the choice of most people. However, because the glass is eroded by water for a long time, the sodium silicate in it will react with carbon dioxide in the air to produce white carbonate crystals, which makes the cup dirty and opaque, and it is easy to damage health if it is not replaced for a long time. It is recommended that the “service life” of the glass should not exceed 1 year. White crystals can be washed with alkaline detergent at ordinary times, or disinfected with boiling hot water for 10 minutes every week.

Plastic cups are very popular because they are not afraid of falling and are light. Although the components of plastic products such as PE polyethylene and PP polypropylene are non-toxic, when the plastic cup is used to fill hot water, toxic chemicals are easy to seep into the water. Moreover, there are many pores in the plastic, which hide sundries. If it is not cleaned, it is easy to breed bacteria. Therefore, we must choose drinking cups made of edible grade plastic that meet national standards. The service life shall not exceed half a year. Avoid ultraviolet radiation at ordinary times. If there is damage or aging, such as turbidity and opacity of the cup, it shall be replaced in time.

Plates and bowls will be eliminated if they are cracked or deformed. Most domestic dishes and bowls are made of ceramic products. Ceramic products are safe and high-temperature resistant. They are the best inventions handed down by our ancestors. However, if the ceramic tableware has deformation, porcelain peeling, cracks and other phenomena, it is sending a replacement signal. Because the beautiful colored glaze of porcelain contains lead, when cracks occur, lead may overflow and mix into food.

Families with children like to give their babies plastic bowls and plates to eat. Many plastic tableware are also painted with cartoon patterns, which contain metal elements such as lead and cadmium. Generally, plastic products have a protective film on the surface. Once this film is cut by hard tools, harmful substances will be released. Therefore, it is recommended to replace the plastic bowls and pans at home every six months. Once there are scratches, they should be eliminated immediately.

Chopsticks should be changed every 3 to 6 months. The survey found that 92% of the family chopsticks have extended service, and many families may have used them for one or two years without changing them. Studies have found that the longer the chopsticks are used, the higher the total number of bacteria detected. In particular, when chopsticks are repeatedly used and scrubbed, fine lines will be formed on their surface, which is easy to leave bacteria and detergent. It is recommended to change them every 3 to 6 months. Once the chopsticks are scratched, worn or deformed, they must be replaced.

When choosing chopsticks, no matter what the material is, the most taboo is patterns, colorful or uneven surfaces. It is best to choose chopsticks of primary colors (no coloring, no painting) and integrated molding (smooth, no scoring, no carving). Because the paint may contain heavy metals, the paint may dissolve into the food when eating. The uneven surface will harbor dirt and become a hotbed of bacteria and molds.

When cleaning chopsticks at ordinary times, pay attention to the method. Do not rub them violently or just “take a cold bath”. Soak the chopsticks in neutral cleaning solution and gently rub them. Do not use alkaline or acidic cleaning solutions such as baking soda and citric acid, so as to avoid hurting the chopsticks surface and causing the waterproof paint on the outer layer to fall off. After cleaning, dry and drain the chopsticks, and put the chopsticks into the chopstick barrel with the chopsticks pointed upward. Don’t touch the tip of chopsticks when taking them, and the chopsticks should be boiled with boiling water once a week.
