Three ways to stay away from preservatives: choose eye drops

In our daily life and work, we will often face the computer and mobile phone screen. After a long time, our eyes are easy to dry. Many people are used to carrying a bottle of eye drops with them. If they are uncomfortable, they will take two drops. One is to moisten their eyes to alleviate dryness. Another is that more people think that eye drops have the effect of anti-inflammatory and eye protection.

However, do you know that most eye drops contain preservatives, which will damage your eyes if you use them too frequently. Ophthalmologists remind everyone to pay attention to some words on the package of eye drops, such as benzalkonium chloride, trichloro tert butyl alcohol, benzalkonium bromide, phenoxyethanol and potassium sorbate, which are the scientific names of preservatives and should not be abused. So, what mistakes should be avoided when choosing eye drops?

1、 Depending on the quantity, the eyedrops have two kinds of contents: ordinary and daily use. Generally, if it is a small bottle of eyedrops that can not be used up that day, most of them contain preservatives. For daily use, it is a small package, which is used up on the same day, so it generally does not contain preservatives.

2、 Look at the outer packaging: according to the provisions of the national pharmacopoeia and relevant approval laws and regulations, for example, the chemical names of the preservatives used, such as benzalkonium chloride, trichloro tert butyl alcohol, benzalkonium bromide, potassium sorbate, etc., are generally listed in the ingredients of the quasi Chinese medicine potions on the front market; If the product does not add preservatives, it needs to be strictly approved by the State Food and drug administration. Generally, it will be indicated on its outer package that “it does not contain preservatives.”

3、 In addition, for patients who need to use eye drops for a long time, in addition to choosing products without preservatives, it is better to choose “artificial tears” products.

Reminder: once the eye drops are opened for use, if they are not used up after 4 weeks, they should be discarded immediately.
