Don’t take a bath before going to bed

Taking a bath before going to bed is a habit of many people, which can promote blood circulation, relax body and mind, and have many benefits. But Liu Jianxiang, a doctor at the first hospital of Peking University, reminds that if you take a bath early at night, you will go to bed after washing, and you will not sleep well, especially those who like to take a bath.

Some studies have found that any activity that raises the temperature of the human body before going to bed may affect people’s normal sleep. Because only when the body temperature drops to a specific temperature can we sleep peacefully. This seems to be different from letting people take a bath before going to bed, but it is not: taking a bath can relax people’s mind, and drying after washing can accelerate the “cooling” of the body, so that the body starts to release more heat than people get in the bath. The more it releases, the deeper it goes to sleep.

Dr. Todd anedet, who presides over the behavioral sleep medicine program at the University of Michigan, said: “so, it doesn’t mean that people can’t even take a bath after a hard day’s work. It’s just that they shouldn’t take a bath before going to bed.”

Experts suggest taking a bath one or two hours in advance, or one and a half hours after dinner. The water temperature of 37 ℃ to 39 ℃ is less irritating to the body and has the best effect on relaxing the body and mind.
