Is it easy for men to get diabetes by watching TV?

Men who watch TV programs for 20 hours or more a week are twice as likely to suffer from chronic diabetes as men who watch TV programs for only one hour or less a week.

The Harvard Institute of public health in Boston reached the above conclusion after a 10-year follow-up survey of 37900 men aged from 40 to 75. The disease usually occurs only in overweight adults over 40.

The survey found that men who watched TV for 2 to 10 hours a week had a 66% increased risk of diabetes compared with men who sat in front of the TV for only one hour or less a week.

If you watch TV programs for 21 to 40 hours a week, the risk of diabetes doubles. If you watch TV programs for more than 40 hours a week, the risk of diabetes triples. Previous studies have shown that regular exercise is an important factor in preventing diabetes.
