Hidden lead in five daily necessities

Lead pollution, lead poisoning, blood lead exceeding the standard… These terrible words have appeared in the news again and again. Research shows that excessive lead in the body is prone to cognitive impairment, heart disease, kidney failure and other diseases. In addition to pesticides, paints, gasoline and other major sources of lead, some corners of the home may also contain terrible lead. The US “Fox” news network published an article on March 29 to help you uncover the five little-known potential “lead sources” in your home.

1. Faucet the US National Environmental Protection Agency warned that the manufacturing materials of faucets are mainly copper, and the lead content of copper faucets and chrome plated copper faucets is the highest among all kinds of faucets.

Countermeasures: if you are worried about water quality, you can install tap water filters.

2. Floor lead is a stabilizer that can prevent the decomposition of vinyl (a kind of plastic). However, with the aging of plastic products, lead may precipitate. In 2008, a study on vinyl flooring (a kind of flooring similar to plastic) said that such flooring contained lead.

Countermeasures: choose safer floors, such as solid wood floors.

3. Wallet the environmental health center, an American non-profit organization, found that the lead content in wallets was surprisingly high. The lead content in a high-end wallet was 195 times that of consumer products in California.

Countermeasures: it’s better to choose leather, cotton or canvas wallets.

4. lipstick the food and Drug Administration of the United States found that 22 kinds of mouth red samples all contain lead. Although the lead content is small, it must be harmful to health over time.

Countermeasures: before buying lipstick, it is better to consult the relevant information of the lead content of lipstick, and try to choose the one with a small content, or it is better not to use lipstick.

5. fruit juice some pesticides contain lead, which will “pollute” fruits and vegetables. Tests in the United States found that 25% of fruit juices had lead content exceeding the standard.

Countermeasures: it is better to drink fruit juice than to eat fruit directly, but it must be cleaned before eating.
