TV watching accelerates premature death, study says

More and more studies show that watching more TV is harmful to human health. However, these “health alarms” do not seem to “drive people away” from the TV. A Spanish study published on the US “MSN” website on August 10 found that watching more TV doubled the risk of early death, which may give you a warning.

Researchers found that if adults watched TV for more than three hours a day, the risk of early death doubled compared with those who watched less TV. The study also analyzed two other sedentary behaviors, namely, playing computer and driving. It was not found that these two behaviors would significantly increase the risk of early death. Miguel Martinez Gonzalez, the first author of the study, said that with age, people’s sedentary behavior will increase, especially watching TV will “add insult to injury” to a series of health problems caused by age. He said: “our research results show that adults should consider increasing exercise, avoiding sitting still for a long time, and reducing the time spent watching TV to 1-2 hours a day.”

Other studies have found that watching more TV will affect the quality of sleep, trigger depression and anxiety. In addition, TV programs are full of advertisements for unhealthy food, resulting in unhealthy diet. Watching more TV will also affect children’s expression ability.
