Common misconceptions of sub-health and death from overwork

Definition of sub-health the formal definition of health given by the World Health Organization is: “health is a condition in which all three aspects of physiology, psychology and social adaptation are good, not just no illness or strong physique”. And sub-health is a state of low physiological function between health and disease. The World Health Organization calls it the “third state”, which is often called the “sub-health” state. The number of people in this state is quite large.

According to the results of a global survey by the World Health Organization, only 5% of the world’s people are really healthy, and only 20% are diagnosed as sick by doctors. 75% of the people are in a transitional state between health and illness. The sub-health state has actually warned people that if they do not pay attention to it, diseases will follow one after another.

Sub-health is the critical point of health and disease. Its symptoms do not have any consistent quality changes in medical diagnosis, and can be recovered through appropriate rest and physical and mental conditioning. Therefore, “sub-health state” is also called chronic fatigue syndrome.

The sub-health symptoms include: burnout, inattention, irritability, insomnia, poor digestive function, loss of appetite, abdominal distension, palpitation, chest tightness, constipation, diarrhea, feeling very tired, and even dying.

However, physical examination showed no organic problems, mainly functional changes. In addition to fatigue and discomfort, people in sub-health state will not be in danger of life. However, if you encounter a high degree of stimulation, such as staying up late and losing your temper, it is easy to die suddenly, which is “death from overwork”.

Data show that in the past five years, 134 experts and professors from seven institutes affiliated to the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Peking University have died, with an average age of only 53.2 years. A survey released by the State Council’s Economic Restructuring Office pointed out that the average life expectancy of intellectuals who shoulder heavy responsibilities in China is only 58 years, which is about 10 years lower than the national average life expectancy.
