Origin of karate

1. Karate, as we often say, is a Japanese martial art. Let’s learn about its origin.

2. During the period when Shimadzu vassal ruled Ryukyu (now Okinawa), the policy of banning weapons was implemented. In order to strengthen themselves and defend themselves, the people of Ryukyu secretly applied Shaolin boxing introduced from Fujian, China, and gradually developed into the original karate combined with the local inherent fighting skills of Ryukyu. Because the technical core of karate came from China, it was called “tangshou” in the early days, which means Chinese boxing and shows that they do not forget its origin.

3. It was not until the beginning of the 20th century that the “Tang hand” was introduced from Okinawa to Japan and gradually developed. Okinawans changed to “empty hands” out of national self-esteem. Adding the word “Tao” is not just a fighting skill, but a way of life cultivation.

4. There are many guild halls in Japan, and they respect the spirit of karate very much.

5. In 1969, the all Japan Karate competition caused a sensation, and the competition was quite intense and exciting. For a time, extreme vacuum karate became a fashion for young people. With more than 700 branches and more than 10 million members in nearly 70 countries, Beida oshan’s Jizhen hall has become the most influential group in Japanese karate.

Three characteristics of karate

1. There are many schools, and attention is paid to routines: there are many schools of karate, such as jizhenliu, shidongliu, Okinawa flow, rigid and flexible flow, etc. the routines include Ping’an, iron riding, pulling plug, watching the sky, Yanfei, ten hands, half moon, Yanhe, Ci’en, etc. Every school attaches importance to routine training, which is very similar to Chinese martial arts, but the routines are simple and short.

2. Pay attention to basic skills and footwork: Karate practice should start with basic skills. Basic skills are composed of attacking actions such as punching and kicking, as well as defensive actions. Those with profound skills can break boards and bricks with their fists and feet. The techniques include upper step punch, palm insertion, horse step punch, double punch, yin and Yang double punch, and horizontal hook punch; Leg techniques include front kick, side kick, back kick, volley kick, Eagle kick and two foot kick. The steps are flexible, including lunge, virtual step, horse step, cross step, etc.

3. Combination of fist and leg, catch and fall: traditional karate is similar to Shaolin boxing in China. It is also a combination of kicking, hitting, throwing and holding. It is mostly used until the end of the point in hand to hand competitions, which is called non-contact competition. Modern fighting karate competitions are full contact. Because the competition rules are often determined temporarily before the competition, the techniques used in the competition are different, but the use of elbow method is limited. Basically, it is a combination of fist and leg attack, and sometimes knee method and fall method are also used.
