Printer haze can cause ozone poisoning

Today is world environment day. The theme of this year’s environment day in China is “breathe and struggle together”. Speaking of “breathing”, many people will complain that the haze is really giving people a headache, but do you know? Even in the office, frequent use of printers may cause indoor “smog”.

Some office white-collar workers often have headache and chest tightness when using laser printers, and they can smell an unpleasant smell during printing. Professor Li Qi, deputy director of the Department of respiratory medicine of Xinqiao Hospital of the Third Military Medical University, believes that this is actually the “poisoning” of ozone when printing data. Ozone will strongly stimulate people’s respiratory tract, cause sore throat and nerve poisoning, which is very similar to the impact of haze on the human body.

At present, many office buildings and offices use laser printers because they are faster and clearer, but this printer will produce ozone, which makes many netizens worry that they will be poisoned after a long time, and some netizens worry that the printer will produce radiation. In this regard, Li Qi explained, “the authentic laser printers sold in the market have undergone strict safety testing. The ozone concentration produced by them is low and will not cause harm to the human body. However, many unqualified printers and photocopiers release too much ozone, which will still have a certain impact on the body.”

Professor Li introduced that all laser printers and copiers will produce light ozone when they work. “Ozone is an oxidant. Low concentration ozone can be solved by disinfection and ventilation, but excessive ozone is an invisible killer. If inhaled too much, it may cause respiratory tract damage, resulting in decreased resistance, susceptibility to colds, and aggravation of inflammation.” Ozone has irritating effects on the respiratory tract, such as irritating the respiratory tract, causing bronchitis and asthma, increasing airway reaction and airway inflammation, aggravating asthma, etc.

Therefore, experts suggest that offices that often use printers should pay attention to ventilation and regularly disinfect the air. When using printers, personnel should stay away from the machine as far as possible, and continue to work when the smell dissipates after printing. The company should try its best to use genuine printers, so as to prevent employees from absorbing too much ozone and causing greater harm.
