Nose bleeding can’t be ignored, hidden in life-threatening crisis!

From the above examples, it can be seen that this kind of epistaxis patient can bleed thousands of ML in a very short time, and it is fierce and dangerous. If we relax our vigilance, it will inevitably lead to serious consequences.

Nose bleeding may also kill you? Is this alarmist talk?! Let’s take a look at some real examples:

Mr. Wang has received radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma for nearly 10 years, but he still has many relapses. One day, suddenly, a large amount of blood gushed from the mouth and nose, with a total volume of more than 2000 ml, and I was immediately shocked.

He was immediately sent to the hospital for rescue. It was found through inspection The blood came from the nasopharynx artery. After surgical treatment, the bleeding stopped and no bleeding occurred again. A total of 3800 ml of blood was transfused in the rescue.

Ms. Xue, 53, suffered shock due to massive epistaxis and was transferred to our hospital after rescue. In the past week or so, another 800 ml of blood was bled from the nasal cavity. The blood spurted out several feet away, and the blood pressure dropped. Cerebral angiography showed that there was an aneurysm in the cavernous sinus segment of the left internal carotid artery, which was immediately transferred to neurosurgery. There was no rebleeding and no sequelae after the operation.

Construction worker Dai Shifu fell from a height of 5 meters a few months ago and landed on the ground with his head. He was in a coma for a time, accompanied by a small amount of epistaxis on the right side. Later, a large number of epistaxis occurred more than 10 times, with a total volume of 1000-2000 ml. due to severe anemia, he was admitted to the hospital for examination and treatment. Carotid angiography confirmed that it was a pseudoaneurysm of the right internal carotid artery. After surgical treatment, the bleeding completely stopped.

From the above examples, it can be seen that this kind of epistaxis patient can bleed thousands of ML in a very short time, and it is fierce and dangerous. If we relax our vigilance, it will inevitably lead to serious consequences.

What is the root cause

This “fatal” epistaxis. It is the most dangerous type of epistaxis. The root of the bleeding is caused by the rupture of the internal carotid artery, but the causes of the “rupture” are different. Generally speaking, the common causes of internal carotid artery “rupture” are as follows:

① Head trauma. It is often caused by car accidents or falling from a high place, resulting in skull fractures, damage to the arterial wall and formation of pseudoaneurysms. The tumor body gradually grows. Under certain incentives, such as hard breath holding, cold, fever, etc., bleeding can occur. Master Dai is in this situation.

② Congenital or acquired factors. Such as cerebral atherosclerosis, resulting in weak arterial wall and local expansion to form an aneurysm.

③ Radiation injury. For example, repeated radiotherapy in the skull base area damaged the arterial tissue, resulting in softening and necrosis of the internal carotid artery wall, which is often seen in patients with advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma who have received multiple radiotherapy.

First signs

As mentioned above, the softening, necrosis or aneurysm of the internal carotid artery wall is like a bomb buried in the head, which may detonate at any time. However, before and after the onset of this epistaxis, there will be some premonitory symptoms, such as the “whoosh” sound emitted by lighting the fuse. If you can “smell” the source and cut off the fuse in time before detonating, a life-threatening disaster can be avoided.

On the contrary, if the risk of the disease is not expected at all. When the clues first appeared, they were still confused, missed the opportunity, or even mistakenly carried out biopsy, which was tantamount to prompting the “bomb” to explode ahead of schedule, so that they were caught unprepared and wasted their lives.
